Day 9 – Should I Be Drinking More Water?

Day 9 – I set my alarm so that I could wake up nice and early with enough time to make my smoothie before I leave the house.  However, I woke up with a really heavy head which slowed me down a little.

I then started thinking of all of the reasons why I might be feeling like this and I came to the conclusion that maybe I am not drinking enough water.  So today I made a conscious effort to drink more fluids in general but definitely more water.

By the time 12.00 noon came, I was famished and really needed to eat.  I don’t know why I am starting to feel so hungry during this 2nd week.  The first week I struggled to consume all of the 6 set meals, but this week I am so hungry I could easily eat 8 meals.

I guess the science behind eating as many as up to 6 meals a day is to speed up metabolism.  The concept of drinking more water is to improve hydration, brain function and reduce snacking in between meals.  Here is an article on how much water you should drink per day.  I don’t really snack in between meals as the meal plans consist of little snacks throughout the day that I am allowed to eat.  But for some reason I am still hungry right up until I have eaten my evening meal, and after eating I then I feel satisfied.

I wonder if during the times of deep hunger, I should just drink more liquids.  As I have so many tasty water options to choose from – right?  Green tea, black coffee, water, water with lemon juice, water with apple cider vinegar.  Yummy!!

I will definitely try and consume more liquids tomorrow to see if that makes a difference to my hunger pangs and heavy headed feelings.  I have been practicing writing shorter blog posts so that I can get to bed early, so I will see if that makes a difference to upon waking up in the morning as sleep is also really important during the 10 week lifestyle challenge.

Crikey! I have just realised, I wanted to do some weights tonight, but I totally forgot as I got home late after attending a corporate event.  I did a fair bit of walking around the site today and the corporate event was about a mile of walking as a round trip.  My Fitness Pal app calculated that 7,500 steps was done today, so that’s not too bad.  I am happy with that.

My Food Intake Today

I enjoyed my banana and blueberry smoothie today with a new live culture low calorie coconut milk drink, with a teaspoon of hemp protein powder added.  It was really nice and very filling.  I ate a tuna and spinach salad from Pret for lunch with a coconut and blueberry yoghurt, and then ate salmon, green beans and courgettes with quinoa for dinner followed by a Rachel’s coconut milk rice pudding.  My liquids were made up of 2 cups of coffee, 2 cups of green tea, and about 1.5 litre water.

My Exercise Today

I did a lot of walking today, but totally forgot about my weights once I got home from work.  I did walk a lot of steps and felt ok with that achievement.

My Feelings Today

I feel like I have eaten a lot of food today, because I was so hungry earlier and ate when I felt the hunger.  I hope that I have not exceeded my intake for the day.  Tomorrow I will try and drink more fluids to see if it holds off my hunger pangs.

Feeling quite positive about my body weight goals as I seem to look trimmer in the mirror, however, I will have to wait till the end of the week to see how much weight I have actually lost.   My personal goal for this week is to get in the gym!

As I think that drinking lots of water is one of the biggest contributors to help me lose weight and feel good in my body and mind, I am going to try harder to get closer to the goal of 3 ltr over the next few weeks.  Although I do not like the feeling of over drinking and visiting the lavatory frequently so I am hoping to build this up steadily over the next couple of weeks.

Before this challenge I reckon I drank about 1 glass of water if that a day.  I would love to drink more and hopefully by the end of the challenge this will be a nice healthy lifestyle habit to drink much more water.

I would love to know how much water you drink a day, and have you noticed a difference when you made a change?
