I like WordPress, I started with the free site in December 2014 and went to the self hosting in March 2015. Some people say it’s hard to navigate but I love it. My question is, how often, if ever, do you change your theme?

      Hi Martha
Good question. I have changed my theme on this blog only 2 times. However, on my website I have changed it about 3 times over the past 4 years because I was not happy with the theme customisation.

I believe you should change your theme template to suit your business or interest focus that is aligned to your personal style, brand, layout and overall user experience.

Ultimately, changing your theme is a personal preference. It’s like changing your style to accessories how you feel at the time. Your theme either feels great or feels uncomfortable like a bad fit. You decide and then finding a new theme makes you come alive again!!

Sometimes, when my clients loose their blogging mojo I recommend a change of theme. It works wonders for getting your blogging flow back. It’s like visiting the salon and coming out with a new hair do that makes you feel like a million dollars. You should get that feeling every time you sit down to connect with your audience through your blog and your audience will feel the vibe.

      Hope that helps Martha 🙂

To be honest, WordPress scares me! So I guess if I were going to ask anything, it would be how to overcome WordPress fear. 🙂 Glad to know you have the answers.

      Hi Jeanine

      Thank you for your question.

You are sadly not alone – WordPress scares a lot of people. I too felt the same after hiring a couple of web designers that wasted my time and money. So, I decided to teach myself with books and YouTube videos. I later got a WordPress coach who helped me to build my own WordPress website with Divi about 4 years ago.

So, to answer your question of how to overcome “WordPress Fear” I would suggest the following:-

Learn as much as you can from WordPress theme developers websites. They normally have a blog that has tips on using their themes.

Depending on what theme template you are using, the developers tend to have a FAQ section. Read through previous comments to see if someone has already experienced your problem, if not submit a ticket and get an answer to your problem as quickly as possible.

There is not really much that you can do to break your website. However, if you make a mistake you can always edit or delete your post/page and start again.

Ensuring that your site is regularly backed up takes the fear out of making mistakes. There is not much you can do to make your website go completely wrong just make sure you keep your Website updated and stick to basic tasks and customisation areas for your theme.

All of the above keeps your fear of using WordPress at bay. If you would like to increase your confidence I would recommend playing around in the dashboard with customisation, fonts etc. so you can see how easy it is to change stuff on your own. You could also find a WordPress workshop/seminar online or offline that will provide you with support, guidance and assistance to help you feel empowered to be more in control of your WordPress website.

I hope these suggestions help you overcome “WordPress Fear” (I know the struggle is real). Please let me know how you get on in the future 🙂

I will be hosting a free virtual WordPress workshop soon, and would love to have you join us. Watch this space 🙂
