Day 2 – Stretch | Self-Care Awareness Month with The Feminine Code

Day 2 – Time to stretch.  National Day Calendar has given us all permission to enjoy Self-Care Awareness Month of September by taking part in this fantastic campaign to raise awareness for how we can adopt a better work-life balance.  The campaign is the first of it’s kind and is being hosted by Evolve To Live.

Whilst we all try to avoid working for long hours at our desks in front of the laptop or computer, it is sometimes necessary to get work done, however, when you realise you have not left your desk for hours then it is time to create a ritual for you to create some space between yourself and your laptop by taking a break to do some exercise.

Taking time to regularly stretch your limbs and exercises at your desk throughout the day will help ease the tension, stress and tightness in your joints and muscles.

I do a lot of work on my laptop, working on my clients websites, coaching clients via Skype, writing my next book and writing content for my blog. On a busy day I could be at my desk for anywhere up to 7 hours.  I have learnt to factor in time to breathe and stretch.

It is an important ritual for me to take a break and step away from the computer at regular intervals, to avoid getting stiff shoulders and achy wrists.  I have created a reminder on my iPhone that bleeps at 1.08pm every day to remind me to take a break.

Day 2 : Stretch Tracy Instagram Self-Care Awareness Month Challenge

This picture shows me doing one of the stretches that I do at my desk to relieve the tension in my shoulders, back and neck by stretching each arm up to the ceiling and slightly tilting my head back, whilst elongating my back (it feels great).  Then I roll my shoulders alternatively and hunch my shoulders up to my ears and release – I do this a few times (great for tight shoulders).  Next I do some neck rolls, moving in clock-wise, then anti-clockwise directions (I feel like a new woman afterwards).  Lastly, I stand up and shake out my legs, then I bend each knee, hold my foot for a few seconds and then release moving onto the next leg.

These quick, effective desk exercises work for me as they are quick and easy to do and I can get back to work feeling refreshed.  What exercises do you do during your work day to relieve stress?
